Nominations are now open for the annual Stan Henwood Award, which recognises outstanding individuals in Cardinia Shire who have made significant contributions to the community.

The award honours the late Stan Henwood OAM and his lifetime contribution to Tynong and the municipality.

Cardinia Shire mayor Cr Jeff Springfield encouraged community members to nominate someone who they believe has also made a positive difference in their community.

“The Stan Henwood Award is a fantastic way for Council and our community to commemorate Stan and acknowledge similarly motivated individuals in our shire today,” Cr Springfield said.

“I encourage residents to nominate standout members within their community; those individuals who are driven by community spirit and contribute to making Cardinia Shire a wonderful place to live, work, learn and play.”

Stan Henwood was held in high esteem by the Tynong community for his lifelong dedication to strengthening his local community and Cardinia Shire more broadly.

His positive influence and contributions over the years not only improved the lives of those around him, but also saw him receive a medal from the Australian Prime Minister for Service to Sport and an Order of Australia for Service to the Community.

Nominations for the 2020 award close at 4pm on Monday 6 April 2020.

To be eligible for the Stan Henwood award, nominees must have made a significant contribution to community services in Cardinia Shire for a period of 10 years or more, not have held a position as a Cardinia Shire Councillor in the last four years, and not have previously received the award.

Nominations must be submitted online via the SmartyGrants portal, which will require the nominator to register an account before they can prepare and submit a nomination form.
