More than 28,000 thousand daily motorists around Pakenham are in store for a week of disruption as works begin to re-seal 96,000 square metres of road.

Bass MP Jordan Crugnale announced the beginning of the $875,000 works to the Pakenham Bypass on Tuesday 4 February.

“We’re restoring roads across the state so they stay safe for longer, reducing the frequency of maintenance works and getting Victorians to where they need to go on time,” Ms Crugnale said.

The week-long works on the bypass will take place at three different locations.

From 3 to 6 February: a full closure of the Princes Freeway, outbound lanes 2km east of Healesville-Kooweerup Road exit ramp for approximately five kilometres.

On 6 February: lane closures inbound at Nar Nar Goon for approximately one kilometre on 6 February.

On 10 February: some inbound lane closures at Tynong Road intersection for approximately one kilometre.

The State Government maintain the sealing will make the road “more waterproof and resistant to skids” and will keep it in good condition for longer, reducing ongoing maintenance.

The project is part of a larger $653.5 million maintenance program to rebuild and resurface freeways, arterial and country roads.

“Thousands of motorists who use the Pakenham Bypass to get to work or school will soon have a safer and more reliable journey thanks to the re-sealing of the busy road,” Ms Crugnale added.

Motorists should allow extra travel time and follow the directions of traffic controllers.
