More than 900 volunteer firefighters across Pakenham, Berwick, Bunyip and Lang Lang have received new structural firefighting helmets.

The state-wide rollout will equip members with breathing apparatus and search and rescue qualifications with the helmet, which features an improved design and fit to benefit members.

CFA chief officer Steve Warrington said the pacific F15 premium jet-style structural helmet, which was unveiled in August last year, has been designed to provide members with a range of new features.

“This helmet has specific benefits for internal structure firefighting attack and we’re excited to be able to provide it to eligible volunteer firefighters,” he said.

Each helmet includes a one-touch visor, a full-coverage internal face shield, integrated helmet torch, comfort harness and liner, and flame-resistant multi-layer neck flaps.

“These helmets are modern, innovative and effective, and the CFA is excited to begin rolling them out to its members across Victoria,” Mr Warrington added.

It’s anticipated over 5000 volunteers will receive the helmets by mid-year, which were funded as part of a $60 million Fire Services Statement from the State Government.

Over 1000 helmets have already been distributed to districts 4, 5 and 8 since December.

Existing helmets remain fit for purpose and compliant with relevant Australian Standards.
