Police have confirmed they are investigating a suspicious scrub fire in Officer last night.

Emergency services were called to a fire on Bridge Road about 6.10pm on Thursday 28 November.

The fire was quickly brought under control and the scene handed over to police. An area of scrubland was burnt but no properties were damaged.

Witnesses said they spotted a large amount of smoke in bush near the creek and pulled over to check what was happening.

They said the smoke and flames were quite close to the footpath and they were worried the fire might jump the fence to the adjacent Officer Secondary College.

Three young males were later spotted near the scene.

Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the fire and will review CCTV in the area.

Police are keen to speak to anyone with information and urge them to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
