Food producers provide the sizzle

The Cardinia Shire is home to some of the most productive farmland in the state.

Cardinia region farmers and food producers will be celebrated this Thursday morning at a special barbecue breakfast at Officer.

It’s a way of saying thanks to our local producers for their contributions to our dinner plates.

The Cardinia Food Movement will host the event, on 21 November, at the Cardinia Shire Civic Centre at Officer, from 7.30am.

The VFF Cardinia branch and Narre Warren CFA catering unit along with Cardinia Shire and local farmers are backing the barbecue and get-together.

All are welcome.

The food movement is also hosting a Cardinia Farm and Food Festival later in the day, at the Pakenham Community Garden, at the Living and Learning centre in Henry Street, between 4pm and 6pm.

The events are part of a wider awareness campaign the movement is running through November encouraging all to ‘love local food’.

The local celebration breakfast coincides with the annual acknowledgement of farmers and farming, known as National Agriculture Day, celebrated annually on 21 November in Australia.

The 2019 campaign focus is: “in the city or the country we’re all part of the same cycle…. we are Australian farmers”.

The VFF itself celebrates 40 years with a gala dinner in Melbourne the same day.
