A driver trying to avoid a pothole has run her vehicle off the road, sliding down a 20 metre embankment before crashing into a fence.
It’s believed the single vehicle collision involving a white RAV4 occurred on Bessie Creek Road in Nar Nar Goon about 6pm on Thursday 3 October.
Up to seven trucks and high angle rescue were called to the scene, with members from Pakenham SES and Nar Nar Goon CFA working to stabilise the vehicle before being able to begin extrication.
“The woman was trapped by the legs with the car on its side,” SES media officer Shayne Honey said.
“She was almost standing in the vehicle the way it ended up.”
After having the seatbelt cut from around her neck, she was able to free herself, with crews cutting the front windscreen out.
She was released from the vehicle at 6.55pm before being put in a basket stretcher and hauled to waiting crews using a rope system.
Paramedics treated a woman in her 40’s, believed to be a Nar Nar Goon local. She was transported to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.
Cardinia Highway Patrol said the driver had moved to avoid a pothole which caused her to lose traction on the road.
Officers were unable to confirm whether speed or impaired driving were a factor in the crash.
