In between R U OK Day and World Suicide Prevention Day, and with the issues of suicide and mental health at the forefront of the community’s mind, pavements in Bunyip were transformed as part of a #ChalkItUp for Suicide Awareness event.
The Bunyip and District Community House held the event on Wednesday 11 September. People were encouraged to participate in the free family friendly event to help spread awareness of the fact that 3000 Australians commit suicide each year.
Participants were asked to draw pictures and leave messages of hope in chalk on the pavement.
The event also provided an opportunity for people to share their own personal experiences of mental health with others. The Community House’s committee said the event was well-attended, with many joining in on the day to share messages of hope and positivity in an initiative that supported all members of the community.
