Wet and wild winter

Pakenham SES answered to almost 30 call-outs within 15 hours on Wednesday night.

While the weather was atrocious, the volunteers responded to calls for assistance ranging from trees brought down by the wind and lying across roads to roof tiles blowing off.

The crew received eight calls to help Cardinia residents whose homes were damaged as a result of the stormy weather.

“Thankfully any damage to homes was relatively minor,” Pakenham SES volunteer Shayne Honey said.

“We’d like to remind the community, if their homes are damaged, not to try and self-repair in severe weather conditions.

“Our specially trained volunteers will attend with the right equipment to keep everyone safe.”
