The Berwick Opportunity Shop has been part of Berwick since 1966.

It is an independent opportunity shop, run entirely by volunteers, supporting the local and surrounding communities.

With about 60 volunteers and managed by an elected committee from these volunteers, the shop currently donates to 49 organisations.

Organisations include fire brigades, SES, research institutes, disabled groups, family support groups, food pantries, St John of God and Casey hospitals and wildlife shelters.

This year the shop added the Pakenham Parkinson’s support group.

“This group provides important and valuable support to those with this debilitating disease and to their families,” Berwick Opportunity Shop president Margaret Ruse said.

“It was obviously a worthy cause for us to donate to.”
