Exhibition coming to Lang Lang

There will be plenty of art on display over the coming month.

The Lang Lang Football Netball Club in conjunction with the Howler Brewing Company is involved in the presentation of a unique sporting exhibition of football art.

Curated by former Lang Lang footballer and administrator Bob Utber, the exhibition features work from artists from all over Australia, including the Tiwi islands.

“I have wanted to bring the football art exhibition to my old home town and this has occurred because of my involvement in the book on the history of the local football club,” Utber, a renowned former Gazette football writer, said.

“This will be the eighth time that I have curated a football specific exhibition and the first time in Gippsland. People who don’t like art or on the other hand football will be amazed at the quality of work that is exhibited.”

Not only is the exhibition the first of its kind in Gippsland but also a first for the boutique Howler Brewing Company and the Lang Lang Football Club.

The official opening of the exhibition will be performed by the manager of the Lang Lang branch of the Bendigo Community Bank, Chris Wood at 5.30pm this Wednesday, 10 July.

Members of the community are cordially invited to attend the opening and a chance to purchase some unique bargains not seen anywhere else in Australia.

”We are hoping to raise funds from visitors to the brewery that will help offset the cost of ‘The definitive History of the Lang Lang Football Club 1895 – 2020’,” he said.

“We hope to produce a book that will be unique in its content and tell the story of a football club now making a monumental shift to a new facility but we also realise that it will be a costly exercise hence the exhibition to kick things along.”

President of the Lang Lang Football Club, Chris Brew said it was an incredibly exciting time for the local sporting community.

“We are in exciting times for the club and for the whole district,” he said.

“The Art of Football exhibition is the first ever in this part of Gippsland and is a prelude to moving to our new sporting facility in 2019.

“I urge all members of the community to attend this unique football experience. As a sporting organisation we are delighted to be involved in this exhibition.”

The exhibition will be open from Wednesday through to Sunday each week – with opening hours from noon to 10pm, except on Wednesday – which will be open from noon to 5pm. Admission is free.
