Plans to upgrade the kitchen at Gembrook Preschool are officially on the menu, following a donation from the Rotary Club of Emerald and District.

The Rotary Club donated $2500 on Friday 21 June to the preschool, as the project “ticked all of the boxes for Rotary”.

“Specifically, the focus on promoting healthy eating habits, and providing the children a safe kitchen environment where they would become informed to make healthy decisions and to have an increased opportunity to participate in cooking experiences,” Rotary Club President Ian Ash said.

“The Club also felt that the kitchen upgrade was an excellent fit with the Preschool’s existing vegetable garden patch.”

In a statement to the Rotary, Gembrook Preschool said they had a strong focus on healthy eating and good nutrition, using cooking experiences to encourage this and enhance learning.

“We offer education around safe kitchen practices for the children and encourage healthy eating to enable the children to make informed, healthy decisions that affect their own lives and the lives of their families,” a spokesperson from the Preschool said.

“This will offer the children an increased opportunity to participate in cooking experiences, develop their independence, explore their creative ideas and support their developing initiative in assisting with everyday tasks.

“In addition this upgrade will enable us to introduce new environmental sessions to the preschool.”
