A team of local women are gearing up for a huge challenge where they will walk a 55km trail as part of the 2019 Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane event.

Crossing the finish line is a milestone moment for any Oxfam Trailwalker participant but for Garfield resident Michelle Scamporlino there will be an extra special element to it – Michelle will be doing the walk with her daughter Jess, Jess’s partner’s mum Andrea and her daughter Mirae.

Michelle, who is doing Oxfam Trailwalker for the tenth time, says she can’t think of a better way to celebrate the double digit participation figure than with the ‘I Got It From My Mumma!’ team, who all hail from Nar Nar Goon, Marynoll and Garfield.

The mothers and daughters team have individually travelled around Australia to take part in Oxfam Trailwaker events in the past, but this is the first time all of them have done it together.

Michelle said her favourite thing about participating in the long walk is the friends she makes along the way and the atmosphere.

“I’ve made some really nice friends over the years which I love,” she said.

“I’m really interested to have a go at this one in Brisbane because I want to try a different track.”

Next year Michelle and her daughter aim to do the 100km Oxfam Trailwalker events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in the one year.

Michelle and her team will be helping to celebrate another milestone while on the trail – this year is the 20th anniversary of Oxfam Trailwalker in Australia.

Michelle, along with about 1000 participants from Brisbane and around Australia who have committed to the challenge, will also help celebrate that from June 21-23.

The team is keen for community support to help them reach the fundraising goal of $1600 and is asking people to donate to here: https://trailwalker.oxfam.org.au/my/team/34650
