The state schools of Officer have been rewarded for the vital role they play in the community as part of the Arcadia Community Grants Program offered by Satterley Property Group.

Bridgewood Primary School and Officer Secondary College and Officer Primary School, were among the funding recipients.

Melissa Holden, President of the Officer Primary School Parents and Friends Association, said that funds the school received from the program went towards their first ever motor show.

The event was Melissa’s own idea and had been 12 months in the making.

“We contacted car clubs and the word got around quickly within the motoring community. We attracted close to 1000 people. Roughly 120 cars were exhibited from car clubs and private collectors,” Melissa said.

She says the timing of the grant was particularly heartening as the funds were received just before the school held the event – but also because the school receives relatively few opportunities like this one.

“We’re a little school of around 180 kids and we often get forgotten. So to be recognised and to receive such a significant grant was really special. Everyone was thrilled.

“When I saw the principal and told her about the grant we were both overwhelmed and might have shed a tear or two. At the end of day it’s the whole school community, the kids and teachers that are the winners.”

Other successful applicants for the Community Grant Program were

· Officer Cricket Club to assist their Budding Bullants program which is designed to introduce children between the ages of 4 and 8 to the sport

· Scouts Australia received funds for new cooking equipment

· Officer Tennis Club which received funds which will go towards concreting and new seating

· Bridgewood Primary School, will purchase a new shade marquee and flags in house colours

· Officer Secondary College will be purchasing additional outside seating for students, encouraging them to get outdoors

Satterley’s General Manager for Victoria and Queensland, Jack Hoffmann says the grants were designed to help organisations that dedicate themselves to strengthening communities.

“The response to these grants has been really overwhelming. It’s pleasing to see so many schools and clubs bringing people together in such a diversity of ways. Our community is so much better for their involvement,” he said.

“It’s our very great pleasure to lend our assistance, whether it’s by helping to upgrade equipment, to help with a new program or to support an event. Congratulations to all the recipients.”
