After nine months of intense training Pakenham’s McAleer Irish Dance School had 42 students travel to Cairns to participate in the Australian Irish Dancing Championships.

The event was held at the Cairns Convention Centre, where students participated in both solo and team events with ages ranging from seven to 30 years old.

Over the five-day event the McAleer students claimed 12 National Titles – two of which were won in solo sections by Pakenham dancers Madeline Christofidis and Evangeline McPhee.

The National titles are adjudicated by an International Panel of whom reside from across the world including Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany and the United States of America.

“The 2018 event was the most successful in the school’s history with all students returning to Pakenham in the top two in the country in team events!” dancer Laura McBride said.

“The majority of our students live and attend school in Cardinia Shire and we are extremely proud to be bring home such accolades for their hard work.

“Irish Dancing is a sport that connects with many people on many levels including the discipline aspect, culture connection and friendships formed.”
