Firefighters have saved a number of farms from fire damage in Garfield North after extinguishing a fast-spreading grassfire on Monday 8 October.

The blaze broke out just after 2pm on a hill on a Sanders Road property.

Four fire trucks responded and had the fire under control in under 30 minutes.

Around 200 square metres of land was burnt.

“We aren’t exactly sure of the cause of the blaze, but we are assuming it started from a previous burn that had got into the root system,” CFA volunteer John Legione said.

“This just proves how dry it is, and should serve as a warning to people that even though the ground may look quite green, it is still quite dry.

“Fire restrictions will be put in place earlier this year.”
