A Liberal Nationals Government will build a new junior secondary school for Years 7 to 9 in Phillip Island, if elected.

The exact location will be identified after an extensive consultation process and will take into account the needs of the Phillip Island community and surrounding areas.

As part of this $25 million commitment to improving education facilities for Phillip Island families, a Guy Government will also construct a new indoor competition-grade, multi-purpose facility at Cowes Primary School.

“This funding is a game changer for our local community,” Bass MP Brian Paynter said.

“The funding for this new school campus is a massive boost for local education so I will ensure we get it right.

“I’ve been working hard with local families to provide better education opportunities including arguing the case for a new Wonthaggi Secondary School until it was delivered. Securing $25 million for Phillip Island families is further evidence of my long commitment to public education.”

“I’m also delighted to announce funding for a new multi-purpose sporting facility and gymnasium at Cowes Primary School. I have met with the school to discuss their ideas and plans for this facility and raised it in Parliament last week so it’s great to see Matthew Guy and the team have responded.”

Shadow Minister for Education, Tim Smith, commended the hard work of the local Liberal MP.

“Brian is one of the hardest working local MPs in Parliament. He’s always knocking on doors and arguing the case for more funding for his local community and he never takes no for an answer,” he said.

“Brian is also very passionate about the new sporting facilities for Cowes Primary School and raised funding with me before he gave a speech to Parliament about its importance.

“It’s a great pity that Daniel Andrews and his Labor Government waited until their worst week in Parliament to make this important announcement.

This desperate Premier continues to put self-interest above the needs of the community.”
