A Pakenham man has suffered serious injuries, under police guard at West Gippsland Hospital, after he allegedly ploughed into another vehicle near Longwarry on Thursday night.

Police have been advised the man was driving his green Nissan Pulsar erratically on the Princes Highway at about 5.45pm, shortly before the crash.

He was then involved in a high-speed collision with another vehicle.

It is alleged he failed to stop at the scene, continuing to flee towards Warragul until he was subsequently intercepted by officers.

He will undergo blood tests to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Investigators are desperate to speak to anybody who witnessed the Nissan being driven in the Bunyip or Garfield areas prior to the crash.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
