Tooradin-Dalmore has made no secret of its desire to join the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition from 2019, and AFL Gippsland has confirmed it’s a potential outcome that’s being discussed as part of its current review.
Seagulls president Greg Kelly recently told the Gazette that his club had not only applied to join the WGFNC, but had several “very positive” meetings with the competition.
“They (AFL Gippsland) are re-structuring, and their whole game has changed,” he said.
“We are a small country town; we simply can’t compete with the Berwicks, Narre Warrens and Beaconsfields, and it’s simply not fair.
“We are throwing everything we can at this, we’ve put the paperwork in, and (we) are just waiting for the review to come through.”
This week, an AFL Gippsland spokesperson confirmed that an approach from the current South East Football Netball League (SEFNL) club had been made.
“AFL Gippsland has met with representatives from the club and its interest will be considered as part of the Gippsland Leagues and Competitions Review process currently being undertaken by an independent review committee chaired by AFL Gippsland Region Commission acting chair, John Schelling,“ the spokesperson said.
“The review committee will assess relevant data, feedback from member clubs, and the potential impact on both football and netball clubs and make decisions that are in the best interests of football and netball in our region.”
