FFV SOCCER WRAP
ROUND 2
STATE LEAGUE 1 – SOUTH EAST
The writing was on the wall for Casey Comets after two early goals by Manningham United snuffed out any chance of a win.
In the highly anticipated clash on Saturday afternoon at Park Avenue Reserve, the Blues won 7-1 after essentially sealing the game in the opening five minutes.
It took just two minutes for the Blues to get on the board, and only moments later, Travis Chalk-Hatton put another one into the back of the net to have the visitors 2-0 after just four minutes.
The Comets battled back hard to find a goal in the 30th minute, but the Blues simply blitzed the visitors to register another five goals in the second half.
In other matches, Beaumaris won 2-0, Morwell Pegasus bested Eltham Redbacks 3-4, St Kilda SC drew Richmond SC 0-0 and Warragul United got the points over Caulfield United 0-1.
STATE LEAGUE 2 – SOUTH EAST
A hard fought draw between Mooroolbark SC and Doveton SC has the Doves in second spot after two matches.
The only two goals – scored in the first half – kept the game tight throughout, and despite plenty of opportunities, the Doves just couldn’t find the goal needed.
At Jack Thomas Reserve, Berwick City’s tough start to the season continued with a 0-1 to Doncaster Rovers.
STATE LEAGUE 5 – SOUTH
Pakenham United felt the might of Aspendale SC at IYU Recreation Reserve on Saturday, falling 1-5 in their home clash.
The Stingrays were potent in attack, in particular Alex Taylor-Hirst, who kicked three goals for the visitors, and the United simply couldn’t contain them in defence.
It was a similar result for Bunyip, with the Strikers going down 1-8 in a tough day at the office for the home side against White Star Dandenong.
White Star jumped out to a 6-1 lead at half time, and slowed down a little bit with the Strikers showing a bit more grit in defence, but the visitors still managed to find the back of the net another two times.
Rowville Eagles were the other big winner of the round, belting Knox United 1-6 at Park Ridge Reserve in a brilliant performance.
Meanwhile, down at Power Reserve, Drouin fought hard but ultimately fell 3-2 to Endeavour Hills Fire SC. Lyndale United also won 2-1 against Chelsea, and Old Mentonians were too strong against Casey Panthers, winning 2-1.
Somerville Eagles had the bye.
