Ethan’s exceptional effort

Ethan was shaved by Andrew from Andrews Barber in Beaconsfield, who volunteered his time on the day.

At 11 years old, most kids have their sights set on a new bike or an iPad, but Ethan is well and truly the exception to the rule.
His longstanding wish has been to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave and raise money for cancer research.
After his beloved Poppy had Leukaemia and passed away in 2015 from a melanoma, Ethan Constant decided he wanted to make a change.
“I wanted to do it for my poppy and to help anyone else who has blood cancer,” Ethan said.
“Ever since my poppy died I’ve wanted to help cure cancer.
“I don’t want any other families to go through what our family went through.”
He recalls fond memories of visiting his poppy’s farm when he was younger.
“We would visit Grandma and Poppy’s house most weekends,” Ethan said.
“He was really nice, I remember him talking about how kids shouldn’t use calculators.
“He used to work out on the farm with no sunscreen on and that’s how he got skin cancer.”
Every year since his passing Ethan and his family have taken part in Relay for Life and Light the Night.
Ethan also has two friends – Zach and Luke – who at a young age have been fighting Leukaemia and are still continuing to fight the disease.
Since he decided to take part in the shave this year, the grade 6 student has raised a whopping $1188.
“I thought I would only raise about $200,” he said.
“It’s pretty amazing that so many people have donated.
“I want to raise more money to go towards research so I will do it again next year or the year after.”
Ethan shaved his head in front of his fellow peers on Monday 19 March at Beaconsfield Primary School.
Ethan’s World’s Greatest Shave page is open until June.
