Council is reminding residents that nominations for the Stan Henwood award close at 5pm this Friday 23 March 2018.
The nomination period for this year’s annual award was extended to encourage and accommodate community interest in preparing and submitting applications.
Each year, the Stan Henwood award is given to a person in Cardinia Shire who has made a positive contribution to the community. It honours the late Stan Henwood and his lifetime contribution to Tynong and the wider municipality.
To be eligible for the Stan Henwood award, individuals must: be a Cardinia Shire resident, have made a significant commitment to community services over more than 10 years, not be a previous recipient of the award and not have been a Cardinia Shire Councillor in the last four years.
Those with substantial community contributions to Cardinia Shire over more than 10 years but are not currently living in the Cardinia Shire may also be considered.
Last year, Nar Nar Goon resident Ray Coombs was named the 2017 Stan Henwood Award winner for his ongoing service in the Nar Nar Goon community.
Ray has lived in Nar Nar Goon all his life and has been part of a number of community groups over the past 50 years, including the football club, recreation reserve committee, fire brigade and bingo committtee.
Ray is a Life Member of the Nar Nar Goon Football Club, and in 1995 received a National Service Medal for his contribution to the Nar Nar Goon Country Fire Authority.
All nominees and the award winner will be recognised and celebrated at the Mayor’s Volunteer Reception in May.
