“Are you that guy with that man cave?”
Kooweerup resident James Butter’s bloke’s haven has a reputation of being one of the best in the region.
It’s a topic of conversation with strangers and the favourite meeting place for family and friends.
It’s Mr Butter’s pride and joy, so much so that it came with him when he moved house.
“I’ve had that man cave for quite a few years. It came out of an old pub,” Mr Butter said.
“I put it in my old house. It was 6.5m long, so I had to build the shed around it. But then I had to cut a metre off for the shed at the new house.”
The main interior features have not changed since it was a pub bar.
“I’ve tried to keep it as rustic as possible,” Mr Butter said, but added that he “can’t walk past a garage sale without having a look”.
“Honestly, every week I add something to it. I can’t help myself.
“But all the best bits are the things I got for free or next to nothing.”
Spruiked as a place for all, Mr Butter’s space includes a disco mirror ball, lasers and a smoke machine.
The walls are clad in sporting memorabilia and old signs, while the “whole back wall is my Essendon wall.”
Mr Butter said the fridge was always stocked and everyone is always welcome.
“I often get texts asking ‘bro is your man cave open tonight?’” he laughed.
“Also, for my daughter’s 6th birthday we had a disco party, with the lasers and smoke. It was awesome. It’s just the place to party.”
When asked how much time was spent in the den, Mr Butter joked, “if my wife was here, she’d certainly tell you”.
“Yeah it’s a lot, but everyone’s welcome. It’s a space that’s enjoyed by everybody.”
