Three… of the best paths in Cardinia

Now the weather is getting better, there’s no better time to don the walking shoes or bike helmet and tackle some of the region’s many walking/cycling paths. Here are three of the best Cardinia has to offer.

1. Mount Cannibal is just a stone’s throw from the Garfield section of the Princes Freeway and relatively unknown to the hundreds of commuters passing by. Take the 2.5km circuit walk, scramble up the mountain’s granite surfaces to enjoy spectacular lookouts and a thriving flora and fauna reserve. The short circuit consists of a steep ascent and descent, with a flat link joining the south and north lookouts. At the northern lookout point, walkers are rewarded with 180 degrees of pure Gippsland mountain scapes.

2. The Cardinia Aqueduct Trail is the perfect track to haul the kids in the car and take the bikes for a spin. The five kilometre (return) track is perfect for all fitness abilities as it is mainly flat, with one substantial hill along the way. It is the perfect way to enjoy a sunny morning among the gum trees.

3. Seven Acre Rock is a large rocky outcrop that provides some of the most spectacular views of the Yarra State Forest, Bunyip State Park and adjoining farm land. On a clear day, it is possible to see Western Port Bay and Port Phillip Bay.
The tranquil lookout provides an excellent location to listen to native birds while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding forest.
