Josh Ralph is officially the ultimate spelling bee.
The Grade 5 St James Primary Catholic School student spelt his way to victory in the VicSpell state final for his division.
The event, held on 4 September at Lowanna College in Newborough, saw students in Years 5 to 8 go head to head in a challenging spelling competition.
Each participant had their own way of tackling the challenge.
For Josh, he used the strategy of visualising the word, sounding it out and then spelling it aloud.
The technique proved successful for Josh, who won the Grade 5 division.
Josh said he was excited and a bit nervous prior to the event, but his family, classmates and teachers’ support helped calm the nerves.
“Doing the competition was nerve-racking but doing the interview for television afterwards was even worse,” Josh said.
