Construction of two additional junior classrooms and a larger library has begun at Chairo Christian School, Pakenham.
Works on the $1.7 million expansion kicked off on 12 May with a formal sod turning ceremony led by Eastern Victoria Region MP Daniel Mulino.
The expansion, funded through equal contributions by the State Government and school, will enable the school to increase its enrolment numbers and meet local demand.
Principal Peter Wells said with a large number of families moving to the area each week, the school had received growing requests for enrolment.
“A lot of families are moving to the area, sharing the same faith and values as our school,” Mr Wells said.
“This project will allow us to welcome more students to our school.”
Mr Mulino said the upgrade was part of a $120 million State investment to help build and upgrade Catholic and independent schools.
“This is an exciting day for the Pakenham community. These upgrades will ensure staff and students at Chairo Christian School have the facilities they deserve,” Mr Mulino said.
“There is a great learning culture at Chairo Christian School and it is exciting to see work get underway on new upgrade project for the school.”
The project is expected to be completed in early 2018.
