Numbers and quality rises

Numbers lifted at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange compared to a fortnight ago.
The quality was good with an increase in the number of trade vealers offered.
Trade yearlings were in short supply with a reasonable number of secondary lines which sold to feeder orders.
Grown steers sold strongly on breed and quality. All the usual buyers were operating in a dearer trade market while exports sold firm to cheaper on average.
Trade Vealers were three to seven cents stronger selling from 326 cents to 360 cents for the medium and heavy weights.
Vealers to feed on reached 365 cents, yearlings to feed gained four cents selling from 295 cents to 350 cents and heifers sold 275 cents to 350 cents.
Trade yearlings were firm on average with quality a factor on some cattle. Heavy steers ranged between 286 cents and 340 cents, heifers 286 cents and 350 cents.
Grown steers to processors eased five cents while heavy bullocks were three cents dearer and more on some lines receiving 276 cents to 323 cents and crossbreds to 288 cents. Heavy heifers topped at 273 cents.
