Night construction disruption

Drivers on the Monash Freeway are being warned that the road will be closed over the weekend for major upgrade works.
Motorists are being urged to plan ahead as the Monash Freeway is closed outbound between Heatherton Road and Belgrave Hallam Road each night from midnight to 7am from Saturday 4 to Monday 6 February 2017.
The five kilometre section will be closed while beams are lifted to widen the bridge and add an extra lane at the significant bottleneck where the South Gippsland Freeway joins the Monash Freeway.
Four beams, each 40 metres long and weighing 80 tonnes, will be trucked in from Kilmore where they were manufactured and then lifted into place on the bridge that crosses over the South Gippsland Freeway.
An alternative route will be in place during construction using Heatherton Road and Belgrave Hallam Road.
The Monash Freeway Upgrade will see more than 30 kilometres of extra lanes added while minimising the impact of construction on motorists.
It will address major bottlenecks by adding a lane in each direction between EastLink and Clyde Road in Berwick, along with smart technology and ramp upgrades, improving traffic flow and safety for motorists.
Construction on the Monash Freeway Upgrade is well underway and the new lanes will be open to traffic in 2018.
