A PAKENHAM kindergarten has donated handmade woollen winter garments to those less fortunate in the community.
Pakenham Springs Children’s Centre has led its first community project where children and volunteers have knitted winter accessories for the Vinnies Winter Warm Up Appeal.
Pakenham Springs early childhood teacher Carly Schubert said the wool drive would become an annual event.
“We asked children and families to donate wool and we then had community volunteers and educators hand-knit beanies and scarves, as well as a blanket,” she said.
“We did some knitting with the children, and talked about ‘giving’ and where it would be going.
“They also learnt how knitting works and dropping stitches. They were quite amazed that you could go from a ball of wool to creating something like a scarf in a completely different shape. It was a good lesson for the kids.”
Ms Schubert said she looked forward to delivering the items to Pakenham Vinnies this week.
