2 Guns, but not much fun

2 Guns (MA)
Starring: Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, Bill Paxton

IT’S the age-old American buddy cop movie formula – take a black guy, a white guy, add bromance and stir.
The artform probably reached its peak with Lethal Weapon, back in the day.
But for all its worthy aims, 2 Guns does not reach those heights – there’s no Mel Gibson or Danny Glover here.
Denzel is undercover DEA, Marky Mark is – wait for it – undercover naval intelligence – and they’re both chasing $43 million in what may be Mob money.
But it transpires that the money, which, of course, they steal from a bank in Lower Podunk USA, belongs to the CIA.
Strangely, the CIA starts killing folks left and right to get the money back, despite the fact that for them, it represents about one day’s catering budget… or, looked at another way, less than was spent on this film.
Oh, and neither of our heroes knows who the other is working for… each believes the other is a crook.
Confused yet?
Despite the risible plot, there are moments of bromance, but again, it ain’t no Lethal Weapon.
Good guys, bad guys, guns, and a love interest who is well and truly out of focus… it’s all there, but in a paint by the numbers sort of way.
There is some chemistry of the fine bromance kind between the two leads, but overall this meal is more Mickey D’s than filet mignon.
