AS THE famous Shakespeare saying goes, it’s better three hours too soon than a minute too late.
That’s why secondary college students across Cardinia and Casey should snap up the opportunity to tour Europe as part of the Macbeth-a rock opera.
The last performance for the Secondary Schools Overseas Performance Tour was in 2011, which saw students from 12 schools across the south-east performing Ned Kelly overseas.
Organiser David Meadows is looking for male leads to star in the adaption of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.
“Our last performance tour, Ned Kelly-a musical story, involved students from 12 schools from Melbourne High to Pakenham Secondary College, to Rosebud Secondary College,” he said.
Auditions will ben on Monday 29 July, Thursday 1 August and Monday 5 August.
The tour organisers are looking for interested students from the area from Years 8-12. The itinerary includes performing in London, the Euro-Disney palaces in France, Christmas markets in Germany, Switzerland and Italy.
“This project is organised by four teachers who are into theatre and love giving secondary students this amazing experience,” David said.
“This is the fifth performance tour since 2003 – we pay for ourselves and give our time freely.
“The students get great value for money as we do all this for them at no cost to them and because we believe in all the benefits gained from such a project.”
The music is written by another teacher who takes Shakespeare’s lines and sets them to rock music.
