Market stalls rise to the occasion

Baker Ponti Miltiadou is popular at the Gembook Market each month.

THE Gembrook Market comes alive each month with enticing food, creative arts and crafts and quality plants.
Visitors can try on some handmade jewellery, have a Devonshire tea, taste organic fresh bread or a sausage sizzle from the Gembrook RSL stall.
The market even has a free recycled clothing and brick-a-brac stall where shoppers can bring their own items.
Baker Ponti Miltiadou was one of the original stall holders more than six years ago and each month packs his stall with fresh and aromatic bread.
He has been baking his natural breads without preservatives chemicals or additives since 1992.
Ponti has his breads delivered around Melbourne and restaurants but Gembrook is his only retail outlet where his ‘collection’ can be bought, Ponti said.
One of many favourites Conti bakes is the sough dough raisin bread.
“People come from all over Melbourne to buy this alone,” he said.
The Gembrook Market is held on the fourth Sunday of each month from 9am to 2pm.
