Grant brings residents within Koowee of internet

KOOWEERUP residents now have more opportunities to access the internet with a government program launched last week.
Community Development Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said the new Public Internet Access Program (PIAP) project at the Kooweerup Men’s Community Shed would roll out with a $7500 grant.
“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to help more people access the many employment, education and social opportunities available online,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
“This PIAP grant has been used to purchase four new computers, a printer and help meet the broadband internet cost for the next two years.
“Local residents can now access the internet for free on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays in a safe and welcoming environment.”
Member for Eastern Victoria Johan Scheffer said PIAP grants are a key component of the Victorian Government’s $9 million Connecting Communities: the Second Wave policy, which is a four-year commitment to help more people access the opportunities available on the internet.
“These PIAP grants help ensure no Victorian experiences disadvantage because of who they are or where they live,” Mr Scheffer said.
