Seagulls take crucial win

TOORADIN started the day well against Beaconsfield in Premier Division, defending 276 on a ground that had quickened up from the previous week.
O’Hare and Holland bowled tightly to have Beaconsfield 3/31 from 18 overs before a magnificent innings of 115 from Brad Miles turned the game in Beaconsfield’s favour.
Tooradin fought hard to stay in the contest but were in trouble with the score 4/209 with 23 overs still to play.
Tooradin dug deep with the season on the line, and 3/18 from Ashley Adams and 4/14 from a lion-hearted Aaron Avery saw Beaconsfield lose six wickets for nine runs to be bowled out for 222.
An excellent game of cricket was played and Tooradin was proud of a hard-earned win at a crucial stage of the season.

Tooradin made 246 last week and Lang Lang resumed at 1/2 and very quickly had Lang Lang 3/7 off just three overs.
Then a partnership of 43 for the fourth wicket kept Tooradin honest until Justin Hinkley took a good catch behind the stumps to dismiss Fraser for 20. Then it was wicket after wicket and Lang Lang ended up 100 all out after only 31 overs.
Best bowlers were Rory Alder with 5/33 off eight and Aaron Brooks with 2/22 off nine.
Tooradin then batted again and smashed 4/184 off 35 with Justin Hinkley scoring 51, Matt Walker with 41 and Sean Baker 36 not out. Good win and the team looks to continuing that in the one-dayer away against Nar Nar Goon/Maryknoll next week.

Catani resuming at 1/7 with Tooradin needing a further 113 runs for victory, but the Gulls struggled to get a breakthrough – and that came when veteran Peter O’Hare joined the attack and removed the dangerous Coupe (25) with the score at 2/45.
Tooradin then proceeded to take four wickets for three runs, and with the score at 5/48 the game was in the balance, with Peter O’Hare with four wickets.
Catani’s David Spierings made a valuable 40 but was the ninth wicket to fall with the score on 112 still seven runs short. A tense few overs followed with tail-enders Bill Purvis (13n.o.) and Ben Koopman (13n.o.) seeing the visitors home in the 62nd over.
Best of the bowlers were Peter O’Hare 6/45 off 14 overs and Greg Bethune 2/15 off 19 overs in a welcome return to form.

Defending 271, Tooradin’s opening bowlers started well but without luck. James Thompson (2/44) persevered and was rewarded for his consistent effort and Daniel Quinn (3/55) could have finished with better figures but for a few dropped catches. Joel Mitchell fielded well chasing a lot of leather and Ross Simpson ended the day with a fine 4/24, and proved very hard to handle.
James Thompson took a fine catch from the bowling of Shane Somers (1/39) but some of the fielding was a bit sloppy with several run-outs missed and three or four catches put down.
Even so, Tooradin won by 106 runs.
In their second innings, Ross Simpson finished 38 not out as Tooradin finished the day 1/57.
Officer agreed to pull stumps early, in a game played in pleasant spirit.

Tooradin played Cardinia Red at Cardinia. Tooradin won the toss and batted and at the end of 40 overs the Seagulls were 9/81.
Dylan Sutton and Mitch Dawkins had a solid 23-run partnership before Dylan mistimed a pull shot. From 1/23 Tooradin slumped to 5/37 when Mitch was dismissed for a well-made 20.
At drinks the Seagulls were 5/43, but then had the best partnership of the innings between Nic Simpson (16) and Tim Lenders (19). This was a 37-run partnership before Nic, who had played some fine shots, was caught.
Brad was run out and in the end Troy Seebacher and Cody Gramberg batted out the last three overs without going out.
On a slow ground the team will have to bowl well next week to restrict Cardinia.

Tooradin played Kooweerup at home. Kooweerup won the toss and elected to bat. At the end of 40 overs, the Kooweerup team had batted well to make 4/143.
Tooradin’s wicket-takers were Bailey Webb (1/12), Fraser Rendall (1/15) and Mitch Simpson (1/18).
John Connor featured in a run-out for our first wicket.
Again the team was let down by bowling too many wides and no balls – something the lads will have to work on at practice.

Tooradin were due to play Kilcunda/Bass at Rutter Park. Unfortunately due to some changes this match was postponed till next week.
