Q and A with Santa Claus

Santa sent this photo from his last visit to Queensland, where he'd like to return on a holiday with Mrs Claus.

The Gazette contacted Santa Claus at the North Pole to see if he wanted to participate in the Q and A! He said yes! Here’s what he had to say.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I enjoy getting on the elves’ woodworking tools and creating my own wooden toys. My favourite item to make is a wooden nutcracker.

What are you most passionate about?

Raising awareness about global warming. My reindeer would be quite uncomfortable if the ice melted at the North Pole.

What would your last meal be?

Cookies and milk, of course!

What was your favourite subject in school?

Would you believe physics? It’s become quite handy to work out how to pack the sleigh. You need to factor in weight distribution and gravity!

Which guests, dead or alive, would you invite to dinner?

I think Rishabhanatha, Muhammad, Guru Nanak, Confucius, Joseph Smith Jr, Krishna and the Fourteenth Dalai Lama would all make for a great conversation.

What Christmas TV special is your favourite?

I like all The Office Christmas episodes, both the UK and the US versions.

How would you describe your fashion sense?

Bold and comfortable. I’ve always found red brings out the colour in my eyes and long hours in the workshop and in the sleigh requires optimal comfort and warmth.

Have you had a pet that has made an impact on your life?

I consider my reindeer friends, not pets.

If you had to compete on MasterChef, what dish would you cook?

A cookies and cream cheesecake with gingerbread crumb and caramelised carrot icecream.

Where is your dream holiday destination?

I’d love to go snorkelling with Mrs Claus on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia.

What were you like as a kid?

I was quite shy as a child. Look at me now, talking and listening is one of my favourite activities.

What’s one question you have never been able to get the answer to?

How did Rudolf get his red nose?

What is your favourite Christmas carol?

I quite like Glee’s version of Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.

Do you prefer a winter or summer Christmas?

I do enjoy trading the suit for a single, shorts and thongs when I visit Australia. I always have to be sun smart though as to not get burnt!
