The 76th annual Lang Lang Rodeo drew a record crowd on Monday, with more than 3500 people flocking to the Lang Lang Showgrounds.
The rodeo was off to a slower than usual start in the morning but Lang Lang Rodeo secretary said the crowd really built late morning and attendance numbers were up on last year.
“Entry numbers were up too. We ended up running until after 5pm, whereas previous years it would finish between 4pm and 5pm,” Ms Berry said.
“It was brilliant. The weather couldn’t have been better really, it was just perfect.
“The dog high jumps are always such a highlight. There were quite a lot of dogs on leads on the grounds throughout the day too.”
The dog high jump champion was Teagen from Croydon with her dog Bailey. She won $300.
Apart from the dog high jumps, the bull rides were exhilarating as always.
“The whole day ran smoothly, and the crowd was great. People loved the family atmosphere,” she said.
A special tribute was paid to local competitor Ike Dey at lunchtime.
The bareback rider sadly passed away on February 28 this year.
Mr Dey was known by many as a gentleman cowboy, he was equally famous for his good dress sense and his trademark moustache.
