Community theatre group, Gemco Players are busy putting the finishing touches on their latest production, which opens in March.

Gemco are well recognised for supporting local playwrights and for the second year in a row are performing a play by Hannie Rayson, best known for her plays ‘Hotel Sorrento’ and ‘Life After George.’

‘Extinction’ is a relatively new work and well-respected Melbourne director Sharon Maine is excited to bring another of Hannie’s plays to Emerald.

The play features themes of climate change, illness, family relationships, love, ethics and the ultimate fight for survival.

The cast features some regular Gemco performers including award winning actors Kylie Rackham and Matt Phillips.

Gemco provides a supper for all audience members that is enjoyed with the actors and production team after the show – which is included in the ticket price along with a program.

All profits from the opening night will be donated to the Emerald-Monbulk Wildlife Centre.
