A trapped driver and a child were freed from a vehicle after a collision on Racecourse Road in Pakenham on Tuesday 10 October, about 9am.
Police, ambulance and CFA crews were at the scene, where an SUV travelling north appeared to have run into the back of a vehicle which was indicating to turn into Barrington Drive from Racecourse Road.
Emergency crews worked for about 30 minutes to extract the driver of the SUV before she was placed on a stretch board. An eight year old on board was also taken by ambulance for assessment.
A CFA fire truck was first on scene.
Fire Officer David Murdoch said his crew had just “come across” the car accident.
“We didn’t get called to it. We just around the corner and it must have happened just before us. We rendered first aid until Ambulance Victoria arrived and rendered the scene safe.”
Significant damaged was caused to the front of the SUV.
Tammy Bullock, the driver of the vehicle who was hit from behind, said she was quite shaken up.
“I was just putting my blinker on to turn down and they hit me from behind. I wasn’t even listening to music or anything.”
She said she was “so scared” as her three-year-old son Detroit was sitting in the back seat.
“I was worried about him. He hasn’t spoken yet which is unusual but he’s probably mesmerised by all the lights as well.
“I actually don’t know what happened. I just hope they are OK.
“I had the indicator on because I do it every single morning … every day, because I live just down there.”
Ms Bullock said she had a sore leg and neck.
The SUV driver and the child were reported to be in a stable condition and were taken to hospital.
Traffic was blocked for more than an hour on the north-bound lane with cars diverted to Simon Drive.
Police slowed all traffic in the southbound lane of Racecourse Road.
