St Francis Xavier (SFX) College has come out on top in the Premier Division of the 2017 Schools on Stage competition.
The SFX College students were thrilled to take home the win with their production of Beauty and the Beast at Schools on Stage which was held at Hillcrest Christian College last Thursday 7 September.
Kooweerup Secondary College was announced as runners-up for their performance of Fiddler on the Roof.
Hosted by Tim Campbell for the seventh year in a row, 11 schools competed across two divisions in what was a spectacular display of talent from local students.
City of Casey Councillor Wayne Smith congratulated not only the winners but also everyone who dedicated hours of time in the lead-up to the event.
“I am sure that everyone would agree that the hours of hard work, which are dedicated both on and off the stage shone through in each and every performance,” he said.
“It thrills me to see young people pursuing their interests in the arts, and Schools on Stage is a fantastic opportunity for young people to reach their full potential.
“On behalf of the City of Casey, I would like to congratulate all of our entrants, as well as thank the parents, guardians and teachers for helping to facilitate this production.”
Students from Alkira Secondary College were lucky enough to dance alongside Tim Campbell while he performed Shout, and were later announced as the winners of the Open Division for their performance of Singing in the Rain.
Cr Smith said that since its inception seven years ago, Schools on Stage had invited schools throughout Casey to come and perform together and showcase their talents while building positive community connections.
“This year I am thrilled that the students have had the opportunity to perform their musicals with a live orchestra, which in some cases was the first time that these students have performed on stage,” Cr Smith said.
“As an audience, we were treated to an entertaining night, watching exceptional talent that makes for a very promising future for the arts in Casey.”
