Kindergarten educators across 18 local centres operated by Kinders Together (KT) will retain their positions when the management changes hands in January 2018.
Allaying community fears, incoming provider Bestchance confirmed that the jobs of the current 60 educators will be secure when it takes over the operation of local kindergartens.
The decision will see teachers continue working at their current centres as lobbied for by Cardinia Shire Council CEO Garry McQuillan.
Both council and Bestchance expect “minimal” change noticed on a ground level as part of the changeover.
“As a result of this appointment, Bestchance can offer a commitment to the ongoing employment of all educators currently employed across these kindergarten services,” Bestchance acting CEO David Greenwood said.
“Bestchance recognises the strengths of educators, valuing their contribution and we look forward to working together to ensure the best possible outcomes for children, families and the community.”
Despite the good news, the future of other staff currently employed by KT, including cleaners and gardeners, remains unclear.
However, Bestchance has reassured it would work with the current provider and Cardinia Shire Council to “provide opportunities for other staff impacted by the change”.
Chair of the board of management of Kinders Together Gary Methven said he was disappointed with the outcome of the EOI process, which saw the local organisation lose its contracts, putting local jobs at risk.
