Date set for hospital opening

Works are nearing completion on the new St John of God Berwick Hospital, opening January 2018.

A date has been set for the official opening of the new state-of-the-art St John of God Berwick Hospital.
On Thursday 18 January 2018, all existing services will be relocated from the current Gibb Street site to the new 75 Kangan Drive facility.
The $120 million hospital will also see the expansion of health services currently offered at Gibb Street to include the region’s first intensive care unit and cardiac services with dedicated cardiac beds and a cardiac/vascular catheter laboratory.
Initially, the hospital will open with 110 beds, five operating theatres and one procedure room.
Intensive care and cardiac services, including the Cardiovascular Interventional Lab, will open in early February 2018.
Along with world-class facilities, the new hospital will also see the addition of 200 ongoing jobs, adding to the already 400-strong staff.
Hospital CEO Lisa Norman said the new facility had attracted strong interest by health professions.
Already, the five operating theatres were almost fully booked by doctors, she said.
“We are so pleased with the uptake that we are now actively exploring commissioning all 190 beds and fitting out the sixth theatre at the same time,” Ms Norman said.
“This is great news for our community who will have increased access to specialist doctors in a contemporary healthcare facility.”
