Yard up but prices down

Last Wednesday’s yarding at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange was larger with an extra 160 head.
Demand was is steady to slightly easier with the yarding slipping nine cents to 316.4 cents.
Bullock number were up as were heifers and veal.
Heifers sold to strong demand and rose on average while veal sold strongly in the better pens and a few good stores also sold to firm demand.
Steers slipped, but a lack of numbers in this category forced some re-stockers out of the market.
Eight bullocks made to 312.2 cents, up 21 cents, and averaged 282 cents, back nine cents, 53 heifers made to 342.2 cents, up 48 cents, and averaged 282.8 cents, up 33 cents, 12 steers made to 327.2 cents, up three cents, and averaged 281.1 cents, back 19 cents, 300 veal made to 395.2 cents, up five, and averaged 330.6 cents, back 11 cents.
A similar number were yarded on Thursday for the bull and cow sale.
It was regarded as a better quality market which averaged 11 cents up.
Eighteen bulls topped at 310.2 cents and averaged 255.2 cents, and there were 386 cows penned topping at 288.2 cents to average 11 cents up at 203.4 cents.
Also yarded were 14 bullocks which made to a top of 295 cents and averaged 248.9 cents.
The draw for 21 and 22 June is 1, Scotts; 2, Gibbon; 3, Elders; 4, Landmark; 5, SEJ.
