Club plays national novice games

On the evening of Monday 22 May, members of the Berwick Bridge Club played a three-table Howell with Gretta Hamond and George Ashby first and David Yoffa with Shirley Collins second.
On the afternoon of Tuesday 23 May members played a six-table Mitchell with a skip after round three.
North-south direction winners were Bert Romiejn with Shirley Collins.
Second was John Watson and George Ashby and third was Robert Morley and Michael Mandeltort.
On the afternoon of Wednesday 24 May members played a 10-table Mitchell with a skip after round five.
First for north-south was Maggie Callander with Shirley Collins, second was Faye Rowlands and Lyell Cooke, and Gretta Hammond with George Ashby were third.
Bert Romeijn and Julie Day were first for the east-west direction, Richard Poole with David Yoffa were second and Dianne Nicol with Michael Mandeltort were third.
On the afternoon of Friday 26 May members played the Australian-wide Novice Pairs for players with less than 50 masterpoints.
This competition is played all over Australia in the last week of May.
At club level the winners were Helen Rhoden and her daughter Mardi with 62.22 per cent, the second pair was Tony Kimber and Sandy Spencer with 58.88 per cent, and the third was Jane McLaughin with Ann Hodgson with having 57.03 per cent.
The rest of the players all played a seven-table Howell and the winners were David Yoffa with Shirley Collins, with Bert Romeijn and Julie Day second, Michael Mandeltort with Barbara Barr were third, and Terry Sheafe with Angela Larsen were fourth.
