At 11am on 24 May there was silence across Cardinia classrooms as students engaged in a shared storytime.
Pakenham Consolidated School was just one of the many local education centres joining others across the country for National Simultaneous Storytime, an Australian initiative promoting books and the fun of reader to the younger generation.
All reading along to Tony Wilson’s ‘The cow tripped over the moon’, Cardinia participants were joined by local councillors for a short reading session.
Deputy mayor Jodie Owen was special guest reader at the school, reading aloud the children’s story to the school’s Foundation students.
The book was a hit with students, who attentively sat on the cross-legged on the classroom floor as they read along with the councillor.
At the end of the session, Cr Owen presented the school with their very own copy of the book, to be loaned out to students through the school library.
Other Pakenham education providers that participated in this year’s event include Pakenham Hills Primary School and Emerald Kindergarten – with councillor Leticia Wilmot – and Beaconsfield Kindergarten with mayor Brett Owen.
