Police are warning residents in Kooweerup and Lang Lang about a phone call scam specifically targeting them.
At the beginning of the call the speakers identifies themselves as police or insurance company representative, before requesting for the victim to send money.
Sergeant Allen Inderwische said police are concerned that people might mistake the calls for being legitimate.
“We don’t make these types of call,” he said.
“We don’t do debt collection.”
He said a 70-year-old woman had received a call asking her to pay an outstanding amount of $300-$400 for an accident claim even though she hasn’t driven in years.
Police are advising residents to contact Pakenham police on 5945 2500 if they receive a scam call.
