There were approximately 500 export and 520 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 240 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a cheaper market.
Quality declined and competition softened for all but the best trade cattle.
Trade cattle sold mostly five cents to 10 cents cheaper with a handful of B muscle vealers and grain assisted yearlings selling a little dearer, while yearling grass heifers over 400kg also gained a few cents.
Young turnout cattle suited to feed or re-stock continued to trend cheaper.
Grown steers and bullocks were back four cents to eight cents with quality an issue.
Heavy weight grown Heifers eased 12 cents. Crossbred manufacturing steers were off 10 cents.
Vealers to butchers sold from 332 cents to 387 cents. Yearling trade steers made between 318 cents and 380 cents. Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 306 cents and 365 cents. Young turnout steers made from 305 cents to 375 cents.
Grown steers sold from 296 cents to 322 cents. Bullocks made between 304 cents and 318 certs.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish sold between 281 cents and 308 cents.
