National Volunteer Week saw Casey’s big-hearted locals recognised for their hard work at the Casey Volunteer Awards.
The Awards honoured individuals, groups and organisations whose voluntary efforts significantly improve Casey residents’ lives.
Speaking at the awards ceremony on Friday 12 May, Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said he was proud of Casey’s volunteer spirit.
“I believe that the volunteers we have in Casey are some of the best,” he said.
The Casey Individual Volunteer Award was awarded to Roman Nowak who volunteers in three different roles in the City of Casey.
He works with the Youth Referral and Independent Person Program on call 24/7, The Salvation Army in Cranbourne co-ordinating an emergency relief service and still finds time to look after the environment.
The Casey Young Volunteer Award went to Hayley Stevens who was recognised as a student role model for her efforts in organising a large team of students to participate in the Casey Relay for Life in March.
Debbie Medley and Maureen Fowler who deliver the KC Dog Education Program for Neighbourhood Watch Casey to kindergarten children across the shire where recognised for their service with The Casey Volunteering Pair Award.
The Cranbourne Regional Uniting Church Food Truck was awarded the Casey Volunteer Group Award for providing free nutritious meals for homeless and disadvantaged residents in the Cranbourne area.
The Casey Volunteer Organisation Award went to Backpacks 4 VIC Kids for its work to provide quality backpacks and nappy bags to children entering foster care in Victoria.
