Demand firms market

There were similar numbers yarded last week in comparison to the previous sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange’s fat sale on Wednesday.
Demand was slightly better with most sales firm to stronger. Bullock numbers increased and averaged marginally heavier, and there were similar numbers in the steer and heifer sections with steers getting the upper hand with some re-stocker interest in this area.
A few extra veal were penned and quality was a little easier, but prices still remained steady with one smaller store steer reaching 402.2 cents per kilo.
The yard average lifted three cents to 322.2 cents.
Twelve bullocks made to 308.6 cents, back four cents, and averaged 288.3 cents, firm, 22 heifers made to 324.6 cents, up three cents, and averaged 267.9 cents, up five cents, 37 steers made to 342.2 cents, up 16 cents, and averaged 304.6 cents, up 28 cents, 229 veal made to 388.2 cents, back eight cents, and averaged 341.4 cents, back two cents.
There was a large reduction in numbers on Thursday with 427 head penned and with the return of missing buyers from last week, prices returned to normal with the extra competition resulting in a yard average lift of 34 cents to 209.1 cents.
There were 22 bulls yarded and the top was up 35 cents to 313.6 cents, with the average four cents up at 255.8 cents.
This pattern followed through to the cow pens with a top price of 304.2 cents, up 34 cents on last week and the average was 33 cents better at 204.7 cents.
