Firm market sees quality decline

There were approximately 650 export and 600 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 140 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a generally firm market.
Quality declined in the grown cattle while the trade offering was good with fewer vealers and some very good trade weight grain assisted calves on offer.
The limited selection of vealers held firm.
Yearling trade cattle sold firm while secondary steers to feed and restock eased 10 cents to 20 cents.
Grown steers and bullocks eased two cents to four cents. Heavy weight grown heifers lifted by three cents.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers gained six cents while the Friesian portion eased seven cents with quality an issue.
Vealers to butchers sold from 346 cents to 385 cents, yearling trade steers made between 320 cents and 377 cents while yearling heifers to the trade sold between 300 cents and 369 cents.
Feeder steers made from 306 cents to 377 cents, grown steers sold from 305 cents to 337 cents, bullocks made between 310 cents and 329 cents, heavy weight grown heifers sold between 270 cents and 321 cents and heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 238 cents to 240 cents with the crossbred portion from 277 cents to 316 cents.
