Population on display

Artist Janine Good with her latest exhibition, celebrating the people of Cardinia Shire.

An exhibition celebrating Cardinia Shire’s diverse population is now on display.
‘The changing faces of Cardinia’, created by artist and Living Learning Pakenham painting tutor Janine Good, features portraits of 20 local residents.
Part of the region’s Harmony Day festivities, the exhibit was officially opened by Cardinia Shire Mayor Brett Owen on 2 May and will be on display at the Henry Street community centre until 19 May.
Ms Good said she was inspired to show people of all backgrounds could be unified.
“By focusing on the human face and aiming to capture the personality emphasises the similarities rather than the differences between individuals of cultural diversity,” Ms Good said.
“Each of the 20 panels is painted a tone that corresponds with the skin so that when displayed as a cohesive group forms what appears to be a patchwork of beautiful tones, a symbolic representation of the rich tapestry of our society, a society built on peace, respect and equality – something that can only come with cohesion.”
The project was funded by a Cardinia Shire Social Support Grant with the aim of promoting social cohesion and focusing on the strength of cultural diversity.
