Little musicians get into the big band sound

Casey Thompson gives trombone lessons.

The Cardinia Civic Concert Band held its first of many educational children’s concerts on Sunday.
The concert allowed children to experience the art of playing an instrument in a program that was entertaining and exciting, and gave the children the opportunity to explore the many different instruments of the orchestra and music elements.
Lots of interactive activities including drawing and movement enabled the children to demonstrate how the music made them feel as they discovered different musical tonal colours, textures, sounds and dynamics.
The children were introduced to a variety of instruments and received a demonstration of the different techniques used to play them at the Army Road Hall in Pakenham Upper..
This culminated in the children exploring and trying the concert band’s many different musical instruments.
The Cardinia Civic Concert Band was excited to offer this opportunity to the young musicians of the future and looks forward to presenting more opportunities to learn and discover music later in the year.
